Resident Evil Surpasses $300 Million Worldwide, Becoming the Franchise’s Biggest Box-Office Hit
Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil has surpassed $300 million at the worldwide box office, reaching an estimated US$320.2 million as of October 11. Its release in China helped push the reboot past the milestone and back to the top of the global weekend chart.
The film has now overtaken Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which earned approximately $312.2 million worldwide, to become the franchise’s highest-grossing instalment without adjusting for inflation. It also marks a career best for Cregger, surpassing the roughly $270 million earned by Weapons.
North American audiences have played a substantial role in that success. After opening to approximately $60.2 million in September, the film has reached an estimated $138.5 million domestically. It added $8.35 million in its fourth weekend, falling around 34% from the previous weekend.
Starring Austin Abrams as a medical courier caught in an outbreak, the reboot gives the long-running video game adaptation a new central character and a fresh starting point. Its performance establishes a strong theatrical comeback for the series, with its final worldwide total still climbing.
