The Road So Far: How This All Started, What We Faced, and What’s Next.
Hey guys, this one’s a little different from our usual content—I just wanted to take a moment to share how this all started.
Back in 2016, I had just left Queen’s Royal College after dropping out of Form 6. Honestly, I felt lost. Most of my friends were either still in school or already at UWI, and I was home doing nothing, feeling like I was falling behind.
To stay busy, I started tagging along with my grandfather on his daily routes. He always encouraged my brothers and me to follow our hearts, and during that time, I started dreaming about a future in fashion design. I didn’t feel ready to jump straight into the UTT fashion program, so I took art and sewing classes to build my skills.
My art teacher suggested I put together a portfolio, and instead of going the traditional route, I decided to make it a blog—somewhere I could break down my work, show off the stuff I was creating (like the first skirt I made for my mom), and hopefully connect with local designers.
At first, I planned to interview designers just for my own learning, but then it hit me: there are probably so many others out there like me who could benefit from these stories. That’s when the blog became something bigger—something meant to inspire and inform others chasing the same dream.
And that’s how it all began.
Back in 2017, my grandfather was the one who helped me fund the original version of the website. He passed away in 2018, and if you knew him, you’d know he was the most selfless person I’ve ever met. He always made me feel safe enough to dream—even when that meant dropping out of Form 6 to follow my heart.
Losing him was a huge blow, not just emotionally but practically too. Without his support, I couldn’t afford to keep the site going, and for a while, life pulled me in other directions. I ended up in a stretch of unemployment, feeling stuck again—until my girlfriend encouraged me to use that time to get back to doing what I love. And that’s how Preshaa was born.
Like most small blogs, we’ve had our fair share of hurdles—people showing interest in being interviewed then disappearing, juggling content with limited time and resources, and figuring out how to grow without losing the heart of what made this special in the first place. It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge taught me something new.
Now, I know not everyone cares for backstories, but I’m sharing this because I’m at a point where I need a little help to keep the site going. I’ve built a support page that breaks everything down—why we’re doing this, what your support means, and even some thank-you perks.
But I want to be clear: support doesn’t have to mean money. Sharing the site, recommending your favourite interview, or just cheering me on—all of that helps more than you know. And if you do choose to support financially, please know how deeply grateful I am.
Thanks for being part of this journey, truly.
