Akane-banashi season 2 reveals new trailer and two cast additions

Akane-banashi released a new season 2 teaser trailer and key visual on October 25, 2026, alongside two casting announcements. Taku Yashiro joins as Asagao Konjakutei, with Yoji Ueda playing Hassho Tsubakiya. The season is scheduled to begin broadcasting in Japan in January 2027.

The trailer previews Akane’s training as a novice professional rakugo performer. Rakugo is a Japanese storytelling tradition in which a seated performer uses voice, movement and limited props to portray different characters. The new season follows Akane as she develops her craft within the demanding world of professional performance.

Anna Nagase returns as Akane. Ayumu Watanabe directs the ZEXCS production, with Michihiro Tsuchiya overseeing series composition and Kii Tanaka handling character design and chief animation direction. The anime adapts Yuki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue’s manga, which began in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2022.

January 2027 is an existing release window, announced when season 2 was confirmed on June 20. The new developments are the trailer, visual and additional cast. An exact premiere date and international release arrangements were not specified in the announcements reviewed.
