Kaiju No. 8 anime will conclude with a theatrical film in 2027

Kaiju No. 8 will conclude its anime story with a theatrical film scheduled to open in Japan in 2027. The announcement came on October 24, 2026, during the franchise’s “Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa” event, accompanied by a teaser visual and a video unveiling the artwork.

A concluding installment had already been announced at Jump Festa 2026 in December 2025. The latest update establishes its theatrical format and release year, following the television anime’s first season in 2024 and second season in 2025.

Adapted from Naoya Matsumoto’s manga, the series follows Kafka Hibino, a monster-cleanup worker who abandoned his ambition of joining Japan’s Defense Force. After unexpectedly gaining the ability to transform into a kaiju, he pursues that dream while concealing the very identity that could make him a target. n

Masaya Fukunishi, who voices Kafka, appeared at the announcement alongside cast members including Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro, Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa and Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya. The television adaptation was animated by Production I.G, with Studio khara handling kaiju design and related work.

The new visual was illustrated by the television series’ art director, Shinji Kimura. An exact Japanese opening date and international theatrical or streaming arrangements have not been announced in the material reviewed.
