BBC renews This City Is Ours for season three ahead of second-season premiere

The BBC has commissioned a third season of This City Is Ours, with filming scheduled to take place primarily in Liverpool in 2027. The renewal was reported on October 20, 2026, ahead of the crime drama’s second-season launch on October 25.

The new commission comprises eight hour-long episodes. Creator Stephen Butchard will return as lead writer, with Left Bank Pictures producing for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Season-three casting and a premiere date have not yet been announced.

The Liverpool-set drama follows a criminal organisation whose personal relationships and competing ambitions threaten its stability. James Nelson-Joyce plays Michael Kavanagh, with Hannah Onslow as his partner, Diana Williams.

Both return for season two, which adds Endeavour actor Shaun Evans as Ozzie Thompson, a former gangster newly released from prison, and Money Heist star Álvaro Morte as Felipe. Those appearances concern the upcoming second season; the third-season cast remains unconfirmed.

UK viewers can watch season two on BBC iPlayer from October 25, with BBC One broadcasts on Sunday and Monday evenings at 9pm. Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution, but the renewal announcement does not establish an overseas release schedule for season three.
