Girls Returning to HBO for Five-Episode Limited Run

HBO is bringing Girls back for a five-episode limited run, with creator Lena Dunham and most of the original principal cast returning.

Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah Horvath alongside Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna and Andrew Rannells as Elijah. Judd Apatow will also return as an executive producer.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, marking ten years since the comedy ended its original six-season run. HBO has not announced a premiere window or disclosed what will bring the characters back together.

The original series aired from 2012 to 2017 and followed four friends navigating their twenties in New York. Across its run, Girls received 19 Emmy nominations and won two, including an acting award for guest star Peter Scolari.

Adam Driver, whose role as Adam Sackler helped establish his career, was not included in HBO’s returning-cast announcement. His involvement therefore remains unconfirmed.

Dunham will write, direct and executive produce the revival. HBO is presenting the project as a limited return rather than a full seventh season, although its official title has not yet been revealed.
