Marvel’s X-Men Movie Hits Theatres in May 2028

Ever since Disney completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in 2019, fans have been patiently waiting for the X-Men to make their way into the MCU. Now, that wait is finally coming to an end, as the X-Men are officially on their way!

During D23, Kevin Feige officially announced that Marvel Studios’ X-Men film will hit theatres on May 5, 2028. The film’s cast was also unveiled, with Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Christopher Abbott as Professor X. Adam Driver will take on the role of the film’s villain, Mr. Sinister.

While this will be an all-new take on the X-Men, several actors from 20th Century Fox’s films have already reprised their roles across the MCU. Many more will return in Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theatres this December and could serve as a final send-off for that version of the team before Marvel Studios introduces its new cast.

Jake Schreier, who previously directed Thunderbolts*, will helm the upcoming movie, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo writing the screenplay. Having previously worked together on both Thunderbolts* and Netflix’s Beef, the trio will now be responsible for introducing a new generation of mutants to the MCU.

That younger generation appears to be central to Marvel’s plans for the film. Kevin Feige previously explained that the story would explore young mutants who feel different and struggle to find their place in the world, staying true to the themes that have always defined the X-Men. Marvel has already started laying the foundation for this new team through Sadie Sink’s appearance as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Avengers: Doomsday will bring back several members of Fox’s original cast before the franchise moves in a new direction.

The decision to introduce Mr. Sinister as the main villain could also give the film a much more personal story. The powerful geneticist has deep ties to Jean Grey and Cyclops in the comics, particularly through his obsession with their DNA and the future of mutant evolution. With Adam Driver stepping into the role, he could be the perfect threat to bring this young and inexperienced team together for the first time.

Marvel has not revealed an official synopsis or confirmed when production will begin, but the pieces are finally falling into place. After years of waiting, the X-Men are officially preparing to enter a new era when the film hits theatres on May 5, 2028.
