Pixar’s Ghost Market Hits Theatres in March 2028
Continuing with the D23 announcements, Pixar has officially unveiled another original film, Ghost Market, which is set to hit theatres on March 10, 2028. Previously reported under the title Ono Ghost Market, the film will be directed by Trevor Jimenez and marks Pixar’s first real dive into the world of ghosts and the supernatural. Inspired by Asian folklore surrounding mysterious markets where the living and the dead can cross paths, Ghost Market already sounds like one of the studio’s more intriguing original projects in the works.
The movie follows Kyle, a fast-talking teenage content creator from Chicago whose trip to Hawaiʻi takes a supernatural turn when he stumbles into ʻOno Market, a hidden plate lunch shop on Oʻahu’s North Shore that serves lost spirits caught between life and death. No living person has ever stepped foot inside until Kyle wanders in looking for something to eat and accidentally consumes a mixed plate meant for the dead, turning himself into a half-ghost in the process. Getting back to normal won’t be easy either, as Pixar teases that Kyle will have to deal with paranormal deliveries, long hours working in a haunted kitchen, and, apparently, the scariest challenge of them all: his own family.
Ghost Market will be directed by Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews, with Academy Award winner Becky Neiman-Cobb producing. Jimenez previously earned an Oscar nomination for his animated short Weekends, while Neiman-Cobb won an Academy Award as a producer on Pixar’s Bao, giving the studio a pretty accomplished team to bring this strange supernatural world to life.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about Ghost Market, including who will voice Kyle and the rest of the cast, but the concept alone has me interested. A hidden Hawaiian lunch shop serving lost spirits, a teenager accidentally becoming half-ghost, and Pixar getting its first real chance to play around with the supernatural sounds like it could make for something genuinely different from the studio. We’ve still got a while to wait, but Ghost Market hits theatres in March 10, 2028.
