Zootopia 3 Is Officially in the Works

This probably won’t come as much of a surprise, considering just how successful Zootopia 2 was. After grossing nearly $1.9 billion worldwide, Disney has officially confirmed that Zootopia 3 is in the works, with the announcement coming during the company’s D23 fan event in Anaheim on August 14.

Unfortunately for fans, Disney hasn’t announced a release date for Zootopia 3 just yet. The film is still in early development, so we could be in for a fairly long wait before Judy and the gang return to the big screen. A 2030 release wouldn’t exactly be surprising, but for now, that’s purely speculation until Disney gives us something official.

The announcement itself came during Disney’s Entertainment Showcase, which was actually hosted by Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan, the voices of Judy Hopps and Gary De’Snake. The pair were joined on stage by Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush, who confirmed that the third film is officially in development. Disney also screened an exclusive animated sequence for the D23 audience, although it hasn’t been released publicly. We do know that Judy and Gary will be back, while Disney is heavily teasing the arrival of birds in the next chapter, following the feather tease at the end of Zootopia 2.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Zootopia 3, but the D23 reveal gives fans a small taste of where Disney may be taking the story next. With the film still seemingly years away, expect more details to slowly trickle out as development continues.
