Just Like Mona Lisa anime sets 2027 broadcast with new trailer and cast

The television anime adaptation of Just Like Mona Lisa will begin broadcasting in Japan in 2027. The release window, first main trailer, main visual and seven additional cast members were announced on October 21, 2026. An exact premiere date and international streaming arrangements have not been confirmed.

Yoshino Aoyama, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Daisuke Sakuma, Chiharu, Kakeru Hatano, Haruna Mikawa and Shion Wakayama have joined the cast. Their character assignments are being withheld for a later announcement. Chika Anzai was previously confirmed as protagonist Hinase Arima.

Based on Tsumuji Yoshimura’s completed 10-volume manga, the story takes place in a world where people are born without a sex. Around age 12, their bodies generally begin changing according to whether they wish to become male or female, with that development normally complete by 14. Hinase reaches 18 without undergoing either change. The character’s life becomes more complicated when childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori both confess their feelings. The manga has surpassed one million copies in circulation.

Kana Shundo directs the adaptation at SHAFT, with Katsuhiko Takayama handling series composition. Nobuhiro Sugiyama serves as character designer and chief animation director, while Yuki Hayashi composes the music. The new trailer also previews the ending theme, “Mayoi wa Hikari,” written for the series by imase.

The anime itself was announced in June 2026, making the 2027 broadcast window, expanded cast and main trailer the material new developments.
