New Ghost in the Shell anime enters production at Science SARU

A new Ghost in the Shell anime is in production at Science SARU. The franchise announced the project on October 23, 2026, confirming that the studio behind this year’s Ghost in the Shell: The Ghost in the Shell television series will handle the animation. Its working title is simply Ghost in the Shell.

The announcement arrived through flyers distributed at a press preview for Dover Street Market Ginza’s Open House event in Tokyo. An accompanying visual confirmed the production launch, with further information to follow through Bandai Namco Filmworks’ official channels. Famitsu also reported the announcement.

The project draws on Masamune Shirow’s manga, but its format and relationship to the recent television adaptation remain unspecified. The announcement does not identify it as a second season or a feature film. No director, cast, plot synopsis or release window has been disclosed.

Science SARU’s return is the principal production detail confirmed so far. The studio’s other work includes DAN DA DAN, Inu-Oh and The Colors Within. International distribution arrangements for the new project have not been announced.
