Camila Mendes returning for Upgraded 2, with filming planned in Italy

Camila Mendes will star in and produce Upgraded 2 for Amazon MGM Studios, according to an October 19 report from The Hollywood Reporter. Becca Gleason is attached to direct, with production scheduled to begin in Italy this month. A release date has not been announced.

Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, who wrote the original film, return as screenwriters. Gulfstream Pictures and Honor Role are producing the sequel, with Mendes and Rachel Matthews producing through Honor Role. The reported distribution plan is a worldwide release on Prime Video. No separate Amazon announcement was located during this check.

The first Upgraded premiered on Prime Video in February 2024. Directed by Carlson Young, it starred Mendes as Ana Santos, an ambitious art-auction-house intern whose business trip to London changes course after a first-class flight upgrade. Archie Renaux played her romantic interest, while Marisa Tomei appeared as her demanding boss.

The sequel’s plot remains undisclosed. The reporting does not confirm whether Renaux, Tomei or other original cast members will return. Although filming is scheduled for October, that is a production plan rather than confirmation that cameras are already rolling.
