Hulu Orders Crime Drama Durango Starring Cooper Hoffman and Kathryn Newton
Hulu has ordered Durango to series, with Cooper Hoffman and Kathryn Newton leading the cast of the romantic crime drama. The October 15 news follows a pilot order earlier this year and moves the project into a full series.
Created by Y: The Last Man showrunner Eliza Clark, the drama follows Mikey, a ski-town local played by Hoffman, and Bunny, a homeschooled runaway working as a waitress, played by Newton. Their relationship develops as a string of bad decisions leaves them running from police, criminals, and Mikey’s wife. The role marks Hoffman’s television debut.
Merritt Wever joins as Joni, a veteran detective whose relatively quiet career in a resort town is interrupted by her biggest case yet. Mason Gooding plays fellow detective Miles, while Abbey Lee portrays Irina, Mikey’s wife.
The series comes from 20th Television and Media Res. Clark writes and executive produces, with The Bear creator Chris Storer also serving as an executive producer through American Light & Fixture. Jesse Peretz directed and executive-produced the pilot.
The pickup comes roughly seven months after Hulu commissioned that pilot, giving the project the go-ahead to continue beyond its initial episode. Hulu has not announced a premiere date, and no trailer has been released. International distribution arrangements also remain unconfirmed in the reports reviewed.
