The Mummy Sequel Reveals Book of the Dead Title and October 2027 Release

Universal’s next Mummy film is officially titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead. The franchise’s official account revealed the title on October 15, alongside an October 15, 2027 theatrical release date.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, reuniting the original leads for the first time since The Mummy Returns in 2001. Fraser also starred in 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, in which Maria Bello took over the role of Evelyn.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the sequel from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. ComingSoon reports that the returning ensemble includes John Hannah, Oded Fehr, Arnold Vosloo and Kevin J. O’Connor, with Michael Johnston and Numan Acar also joining the cast.

The title announcement did not include an official synopsis or explain how the returning characters fit into the story. Although the name references a familiar element of the franchise, it does not establish the film’s plot or confirm theories about its villains.

The October 2027 date is the announced theatrical target. A Trinidad and Tobago release date and streaming plans have not been confirmed in the material reviewed.
