Keanu Reeves in talks to join James Wan’s The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil

Keanu Reeves is in talks to star opposite Don Lee in Paramount Pictures’ English-language reimagining of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, according to October 20 reports from Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, and TheWrap. The negotiations have not been confirmed through a formal Paramount announcement.

James Wan is directing the crime thriller, with Lee attached to reprise his role as gangster Jang Dong-soo from the acclaimed 2019 South Korean film. Reeves’ prospective character has not been disclosed, so it remains unclear whether he would play the police detective, the serial killer, or a newly created role.

Lee Won-tae’s original film follows a crime boss who survives an attack by a serial killer and forms an uneasy alliance with detective Jung Tae-seok to find the assailant. Kim Mu-yeol and Kim Sung-kyu played the detective and the killer, respectively. The film premiered in South Korea in May 2019 and screened in Cannes’ Midnight Screenings section that year.

Shay Hatten, whose credits include several John Wick films, wrote the latest screenplay after an earlier draft by Brian Helgeland. Wan and Michael Clear are producing through Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, while Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller produce for Balboa Productions. Lee is also producing through BA Entertainment.

Wan’s involvement and Lee’s return were announced in March 2026. Reeves’ negotiations are the new development. A filming schedule, additional cast, and release date have not been officially announced.
