Tangles Releases New Trailer Ahead of November Theatrical Opening

A new trailer for Tangles, the animated film featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Abbi Jacobson and Bryan Cranston, was released on October 21. Directed by Leah Nelson, the film adapts Sarah Leavitt’s graphic memoir about her family’s experience with Alzheimer’s disease. New York’s IFC Center has confirmed an opening date of November 27, 2026.

Set in the 1990s, the story follows Sarah, an artist and activist whose life in San Francisco is interrupted by her mother’s declining health. She returns to the conservative hometown she had left behind, initially believing she can manage what lies ahead. As her mother’s condition progresses, Sarah must reconsider her expectations of caregiving and her place within the family.

Jacobson voices Sarah, while Louis-Dreyfus plays her mother, Midge. Samira Wiley voices Sarah’s girlfriend, Donimo. The ensemble also includes Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, Pamela Adlon and Beanie Feldstein.

Nelson’s adaptation uses hand-drawn animation, primarily in black and white, with selective colour expressing Sarah’s emotions. Its story draws on the humour and friction of family relationships alongside the difficulties of illness and caregiving.

Independent Film Company and Sapan Studio acquired North American rights, with an awards-qualifying theatrical run planned for late 2026 and a wider expansion in early 2027. The confirmed November 27 booking applies to IFC Center; it should not be treated as a worldwide release date. A streaming date remains unconfirmed in the sources reviewed.
