Zendaya to Star in Alex Garland’s New Science Fiction Film for A24

Zendaya is set to star in an untitled science fiction film written and directed by Alex Garland for A24, according to reports published by entertainment trades on October 15. Production is expected to begin in 2027.

The project’s title, plot, and additional cast members remain undisclosed. A release date has not been announced, so the reported production window should not be treated as a theatrical release target.

The film brings together two established A24 collaborators. Zendaya starred in the studio’s HBO series Euphoria and appeared opposite Robert Pattinson in The Drama. Her science fiction work also includes playing Chani in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.

Garland’s relationship with A24 spans Ex Machina, Men, Civil War, and Warfare, which he co-directed with Ray Mendoza. His films have explored artificial intelligence, political violence, and other threats through stories centred on characters facing extreme circumstances. No details have emerged about which direction this new project will take.

Garland is also working with A24 on its adaptation of the video game Elden Ring, currently scheduled for March 3, 2028. That production is separate from the newly reported Zendaya film.

The casting and 2027 filming plans have been reported by Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter. No separate public A24 announcement was located during this check.
